Basic Lawn Maintenance

Tips:

Avoid mowing lawns too short as it puts extra pressure on the grass, inhibiting healthy growth. It is advisable to allow the grass to grow taller before mowing and raise the mower to the highest possible notch. In most cases, it is best to only shave the top third part of the grass, allowing the grass to grow tall also promotes better root development
Keep those mowing blades sharp. A dull blade can cause damage to the grass.

Monthly Lawn Maintenance Schedule
(This is only a guide)

January:
Soil PH test: Correct with pelletized or powder dolomite lime/to determine if a lawn requires an application of lime, perform a soil test to calculate the PH balance. If the ph level of the soil is under 6, add lime. Grass in soil with wrong PH levels turn yellow and patchy. "Applying too much lime can cause lime induced chlorosis."

February:
Crabgrass control and soil activator

March:
Insectide - Weed and feed for St. Augustine grass/weed out for Bahia grass

April:
Spot spray weeds in St. Augustine grass & Bahia

May:
Lawn food and insecticide

June:
Fungicide

July:
16-4-8 with iron and insecticide

August:
Contact fungicide

September:
Insect granuals 16-4-8 if you don't have weeds - 20-4-4 if you have weeds

October:
Winterizer

November:
Insecticide

December:
No maintenance
